About

Statement

I create nonrepresentational two and three-dimensional works that explore mark-making on wood through the act of burning. My process is one of attention and restraint—I work with what the wood offers, letting its inherent qualities shape the outcome. The torch becomes a drawing tool, revealing rather than imposing form.

Bio

Before her current full-time art practice, Pam Kainz worked as a neuroscientist studying the human eye. This shift from neural networks to wood grain represents a continuation of her fascination with organic patterns and materiality at both microscopic and macroscopic scales.

Her sculptural installation Endurance was featured in the Studios Without Walls exhibition this past summer. She is represented by the Bromfield Gallery in Boston, MA, where she will have a solo show Present Tense March 4-29, 2026
